How can I set an upper limit and a lower limit to sell a stock?
I have been doing a lot of researcher on day trading and penny stocks and I have studies stop orders and limit orders. When it comes to investing in highly volatile penny stocks it is imperative to have a stop loss order so that losses are minimized and so I don’t have to sit in front of my computer watching a ticker constantly. Example: Lets say I purchase 100 shares of stock ABC and it is trading at $.50 (50 cents), in oder to not worry about watching a ticker all day and automating the sale I would like to set an upper sell limit at $.65 (65 cents) so that I can make a sizable profit (assume I don’t care if the price continues to rice above 65 cents, I just want to cash out at this point) and a stop loss order at $.43 (43 cents) so that I can minimize my losses. I know how to do each order type individually, but how might I go about creating both the upper limit and the lower limit on the same sell order?
re: automated stock trading software?
okay, so i’m really out of my element when it comes to stocks or money in general, but i just got a nice little chunk of change and i’d like to play with stocks, but i’m trying not to lose it all. i remember seeing a commercial that would essentially do everything for you: find stock that looked like a good bet, buy and sell it for you, you just had to do something like click "allow"… is this a reality or is this a construct of my imagination? if it’s real i’d imagine there’s alot of programs out there like that, so what are the big ones? does anyone have any experience with them? what’s the safest bet for making the most money? i’m a pretty quick study, so i’m not afraid of a heavy program, but i don’t want to buy three text books and get a degree in stock trading(i’m already working on a totally different degree). how do i make this money make money for me?
How complicated would it be to develop an automated stock trading application?
I have a stock trading strategy I wish to implement through an automated process. The program would check real-time data from a site such as Yahoo! Finance searching for certain criteria (stock price, average volume, etc.). If a stock meets the criteria, this program would then interface with a trading platform and automatically instruct the platform to buy, sell, set limits, trailing stop losses, etc.
First, I have some rudimentary programming experience from college and am curious what language would be best suited to this? Is this language easy enough to learn so that I could write the code or should I enlist the assistance of a professional? If I must hire someone, are there any ideas as to cost to develop this program?
Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.
