Should I change my PSU?
Hi, I have a comp with specs like this
Core 2 Duo e8400
2×1GB Corsair Dominator PC8500
MB ASUS P5KPLCM
VGA HIS ATI HD 4650 512 MB
HDD SATA II 7200 RPM 500GB
4 USB Devices
Might add 1-2 more 1TB SATA II HDD and an optic drive in the near future.
Oh and not to mention a 2nd monitor for trading purposes. (the Graphic card has 2 DVI outputs)
Main uses is for online trading, office software, browsing, multimedia, and mid level gaming, not overclocked, but almost always on (20hrs/day) because I’m actively downloading movies (hence the HDDs in the future)
I’m using a cheap casing stock PSU which is a 380W Simbadda I don’t even know the true power output. I’ve found a website to count my power usage and it shows at least 255 Watts.
Asus PCProbe Shows CPU voltage as follows at idle times
V Core 1.15V
+3.3 : 3.28v
+5 : 5.07V
+12 : 11.77V
But sometimes the +12 might reach 11.63 when at heavy load, is this normal? what is the good value for the above voltages?
Should I change my PSU to stabilize the voltage output? I haven’t got any problems like BSOD or crashes or resets yet, I’m looking at a corsair 400W PSU, will this be sufficient?
Thanks.
Stock Market Video – Outlook for the Week Ahead – 6/6/10 – Part One
We just got through another week of intense volatility and crazy trading and in the video I look at the issues we are facing right now. We did see a follow-through day on Wednesday, but for various reasons (all discussed within), that FTD seems completely dead in the water to me as of now. Cash remains the best place to be and patience remains key. With volatility remaining high and news remaining very imprortant (see Friday’s action as a prime example), it is difficult to make any moves outside of an intraday time-frame. Yes, it is boring to do nothing, but trading isn’t about the excitement, it’s really about doing what’s right. Sometimes it is boring
Home Networking?
I have used a cross cable to connect my laptop to desktop, the desktop is connected to Broadband connection. Using Windows XP Home networking, I configured everything. My Internet connection was working fine with my Home networking for laptop routed thru desktop connection.
Today I am not able to connect to Internet from laptop. But my network is fine. I can share files between the computers.
I can dial-up the ADSL connection thru my laptop successfully and connect to the internet provider. But the internet Explorer is not identifying the connection. I tried with opera also, and its too not working.
But I have a trading software, this is working FINE with the connection in my laptop thru desktop.
Few days before I tried to connect my laptop to my mobile phone. Is it because of this I am not able to connect?
If I connect the DSL connection directly to laptop, the internet is working fine. But it is not connecting thru the desk top.
Please help me.

Technical Analysis questions, help please?
Hello
Just a couple of things.
1. What software can I use to scan through the DJIA for stocks that meet RSI<20, Stoch<20 crossover?
2. What do the numbers mean?
Bollinger Bands (20,2)
RSI(14)
And what should they be set at if I want to day trade or trade intra-week?
Thank you very much
A day in the life of a Systems Engineer (automation)?
Hi,
I’m an electrical apprentice at one of three car manufacturing plants in Australia. Since I started my trade I realised I need more of a challenge and regret not going to university. I enjoy PLC programming and robot programming, and the complicated automation which I have to troubleshoot on a daily basis.
I figure the logical career progression for me is to Electrical Engineer. I know this means 4 years and a degree at Uni.
Before I do this, I’m just wondering if anybody in this career can compare it to what a maintenace electrician experiences, and basically ‘A Day In The Life Of a Systems Engineer’. Do these engineers play a part in PLC programming (software), or are they the ones that come up with the ‘hardware’ design for a production line, like control wiring cabinets, locations of proximity devices etc.
I just don’t want to jump before I know what I’m in for!
Thanks everyone!!
I forgot to do the schedule D for my same day ISO sale and got the heart attack letter. How do I handle this?
I got the letter. They have the detailed information from e-trade and included it. I retrieved the detailed transaction data from e-trade. For each transaction, they show gross proceeds, Total price (which appears to be the qty * grant price), commission, SEC fee and Net proceeds. The net proceeds is the gross proceeds minus the total price, commission and SEC fee.
Here’s their explanation for the letter:
"COST BASIS OF STOCK SOLD
We used a zero cost basis because we were not able to determine the cost or the adjusted basis of the stock sold. Please provide a completed schedule D, Capital Gains & Losses with your response showing:
—the asset name
—the date you acquired the asset and
—the cost or adjusted basis
for each Form 1099-B shown on the attached pages of this notice."
From what I read so far it is the same as the the box 2 figure on the 1099-B, which happens to be identical to the Net Proceeds on the e-trade transaction documentation. Can I actually take a loss on any of the other charges (Total price, commission and SEC fee)?
I still have the file and Tax-cut software, so I can go add the Stock sales, which end up on the schedule D. I take it that I would do that, re-print schedule D and send it with my copy of the 1099-B from e-trade. I also plan on sending the original transaction sheets that show the same-day sale status and the fact that the shares sold were ISO related.
So in summary:
1 – What exactly do I report as the cost basis: The 1099-B box number or the 1099-B box number + one or more of the above charges?
2 – Do I have all my bases covered for what to send back to the IRS once I complete the schedule D by adding in the ISO stock sale information which shows up in Part 1 (short term capital gains) of the Schedule D?
